NZ Takahe

This beautiful bird was thought to be extinct until the 1950's. It has been placed in protected areas and now it's up to about 350 pairs. I was so excited to meet this " old man" takahe today. He is about 20 and is living out his dotage here in Wellington's Zealandia. Arrived in Wellington this morning for a quick visit. Have never been here before. It is amazing.
