Pas de deux
As I approached the iron bridge across the Nevern estuary I could hear the call-and-response of two Canada geese, then I could see the pair moving over the mudbank in the middle of the river. A swan was patrolling the waterway close by. Suddenly it darted onto the mudbank, and, wings raised and head down, it charged the nearest goose which fled in a panic. Although the image isn't very sharp I like the balletic shapes of the two birds. I assume the swan was protecting a nest near by: he looked as if he would stop at nothing to keep interlopers at bay. The geese seemed not to have any parental duties unlike this pair in Huddersfield who have no less than 23 goslings.
