take off

Max did some geocaching in the Hermitage this evening, so I dropped him off by bike. While he was busy I took the opportunity to go on a mini beastie safari. It was not fantastic, plenty of flies, some spiders and one weevil (see the extras). I quite like the St Marks flies of which there were plenty settling down for the night so somewhat more compliant to take photos. I noticed this rather fat fly with the bright face. I was just about to take a photo when it took off, I lucky snap with spot on focus. With a wee bit more luck I would have had it in the frame entirely - ah well, you can't have everything...
