Wisteria

Our wisteria started to flower while we were away and fortunately is still looking good so that we can enjoy it. It's a shame that most of the flowers will have disappeared by the Stokesley Open Gardens in 2 weeks time.

This specimen had already been planted when we moved into the house in 2002, 18 months after the house was built. At the time it was about 5 ft tall and in the intervening years it has grown to this size. Guy is the star here as he looks after pruning it twice a year. It has never been fed or watered, apart from the rain, and never fails to please. My only regret is that it is the variety where the leaves show at the same time as the flowers whereas a better variety is the one where the leaves arrive after the flowers are finished.

Today's extra photo shows the whole plant and how is stretches the width of the house.
