The Left Bank in Cairo is as close as the city comes to a cosmopolitan café scene. You can even have a glass of wine here. It is frequented by the top strata of earners/inheritors as the designer labels and the brand new red Ferrari parked at the door testify.

We treated Dd's colleagues to brunch here this morning. My shorts split right up the back as I stood up after settling the bill . . . they were purchased in Rio de Janeiro for a fiver a couple of years ago. How I wished I had invested in a Ralph Lauren pair to save me such embarrassment!
