The Gretna Memorial

Today marks 100 year's since Britain's worst rail crash near Gretna.
On the 22nd of May 1915 a Liverpool bound troop-train carrying half of the 7th(Leith) Battalion, The Royal Scots collided head-on with a local passenger train just north of Gretna.
The crash caused a huge fire and claimed over 200 lives.
The two employees of the railway that were operating from the signal box were blamed for the accident and were jailed.
Last night there was documentary on the BBC called 'Quintinshill: Britains Worst Rail Disaster' if you get a chance check it out on iPlayer.
This memorial is very near my place of work and tomorrow there will a ceremony attended by The Princess Royal, Princess Anne & others.
