How do you open a canna fruit?...

... With a can opener! (Boom boom!)

A couple of years ago I used to volunteer in the visitor center of a local arboretum.  One day they had some spare canna rhizomes which we could help ourselves to.  I brought home two or three and planted them in our front garden.  Anyone who knows anything about cannas will have guessed that I now have quite a few canna plants flowering nicely in our garden, as do our neighbours across the road who I gave several handfuls to last year.  They’re clearly wonderfully resilient plants if they can survive my gardening skills.
I popped out to look at the new flowers and noticed that they all had these spikey fruit on them.   The flowers would have made a really pretty blip, but I just found the less-pretty fruit fascinating.
I’m afraid I haven’t got back to visiting Blipfoto on a daily basis and I still have some pictures to back blip from last month.  I do apologise for not keeping up with you all as I would like – definitely my loss.  I’m hoping I’ll be photographing more frequently again very soon (and back on blip for the interactions that I love so much).  Still not quite there yet… but I will be.
