Figgy business
Last year, as part of the building work, we had a new terrace built outside the kitchen. In order to accomodate the new terrace the builders had to knock down a little wall and dig out a huge fig tree. I was a little sad about loosing the fig tree as it had provided us each year with hundreds of figs but it was getting a bit too big and, well, we wanted the new terrace.
People in the know told me that even if we dug deep and thought we had got rid of all the roots the fig tree would come back some way away - and sure enough it has - just at the edge of the terrace against the vegetable garden. I am pretty pleased about this (Robin thinks bizarrely pleased) not only because we will now get homegrown figs again but also because I love the foliage of the fig tree - the large, strong leaves that start off small and a fairly bright light-ish green and become over time huge and a deep dark luxurious green.
