Taking the Car Off to Be Repaired

My car was broken into on the night of 8th May.  The perpetrator smashed the front passenger window with a huge paving stone and stole my briefcase which was tucked out of sight beneath the back of the driving seat.  It's costing me more to get the car fixed than the cost of the items stolen and it looks like I won't even get the insurance on the stolen items. :(
