Chester Canal
We had booked a couple of days on an all-inclusive break in a 4 star hotel near the lovely city of Chester. On leaving home it was pouring with rain. Two thirds of the way there the weather was fine but traffic was awful.
It turned out to be an enjoyable two day break. The food was superb and helped down by alcoholic drink which was instantly topped up. The only slight problem was I couldn't get my laptop to connect to the internet. It was picking up the wi-fi signal but just would not let me 'surf'! Even the lovely manager had a go and was stumped. The iPad's worked first time. Why Microsoft can't make their system as smooth as Apples's I don't know. Only a small problem but it's put me two days behind uploading blips.
The Blip photo is overlooking the canal from a bridge in the city centre. I like the way the canal widens and the lovely reflections on the water. It's the Shropshire Union Canal which runs right through the northern area of Chester City, east to west. It skirts the outside of the northern Roman defence wall passing by King Charles Tower, North Gate and Water Tower to the Chester Canal Basin. The canal turns northwards to Ellesmere Port and the short Dee Branch that connects the main canal to the tidal River Dee goes westward.
The Chester canal opened from Chester to Huxley Aqueduct on 16 January 1775. In September 1776, the junction with the Dee was opened.
