Interior of Clavell's Tower, Kimmeridge

This rebuilt tower, owned by the Landmark Trust, was opened to the public this weekend in celebration of the Trust's 50th anniversary.

I had originally intended to post a photo incorporating the tower's former and present day sites; however that is probably achievable without having access to the tower.  So instead I have posted a scene of the interior, since that is what I really wanted to see.

The tower is on four floors: basement (with WC and shower), kitchen, bedroom and lounge.  This was the best view I could manage, as it incorporates most of the room and conveys the roundness of the building.  The experience was a delight; little wonder that holiday lettings in the tower are booked for two years ahead.

Postscript:  As part of the 50th anniversary festivities, a statue (titled LAND) commissioned by the Trust from Anthony Gormley (best known for his "Angel of the North") has been installed on the coast below the tower.  Gormley describes the combination of statue and anniversary as:
"an occasion to think and feel the nature of our species, its history and future, and its relationship to the huge biodiversity of living beings that exist on the surface of this extraordinary blue planet."

Profound words indeed; whereas "LAND" itself is only ever likely to be half submerged in the sea.

It is already in place, and local opinions about it tend to extremes.  In any event, it will be taken away a year hence, so you have limited time to indulge your curiosity.....  I may yet post a blip of it, but will need to await high seas to crank up the drama.

My thanks to fellow blipper JennyD, who prompted me to go down to Kimmeridge, and just happened to be there at the same time!
