What's Black and White and ...
.. not a Dipper or a Ring Ouzel?
I'm co-leading an event for our Natural History Society tomorrow with my friend Roger, so we met up this morning to do a reccy. I learnt a little bit about ferns from him and we found a couple of fungi. As we finished around lunchtime, we went our separate ways. I went for something to eat, and as it had turned into a nice day, I decided to go home via the River (bottom patch) to see how the Dippers were getting on. There had been a report of a Pied Flycatcher round there, but I have to say my expectations were low. However, as I settled down in my usual Dipper watching spot, I became aware of a bird singing loudly above my head. And sure enough, there was this male Pied Flycatcher singing his little heart out for a lady to come and share this nest box with him. They are a species which seems to really like nest boxes. I do hope he finds a mate to share this one with him!
