St James Church, Stedham
Went to St James Church, Stedham to see a celebration of the Jubilee in flowers. A Victorian building on the site of an original Saxon church. The rebuilding kept an old tower from the 1600's, which is why it looks as if it doesn't quite belong. As in the recent visit to Farringdon church yard, there is an ancient yew, now hollow, and believed to be 2500 years old.
The church yard is divided by an old sunken road, on which these horses were meandering this morning. This quiet quintessentially English village, full of typical cottages and pastimes, will tomorrow be buzzing with its annual Thai Cultural Festival, based around the Hamilton Arms just off the A272. Worth a visit for the food stalls alone.
