Every Picture Tells .....

Marks in Time

It was a four - cafe day today!

A catch up with Melissa - a former work colleague in Costa over breakfast this morning then a four-and-a-half hour stint at work.

Then off to Leeds on the train this afternoon for a spot of shopping and some blip opportunities.

First stop in Leeds was a cafe for a spot of lunch and then a walk down to Granary Wharf to check out if anything interesting was happening on the canal side by the Dark Arches. A bit of shopping followed, then a look round the Corn Exchange with a mandatory stop at the cafe there for a quick coffee.

Up to the Headrow for a look round the  Henry Moore Institute and the neighbouring City Art Gallery (the cafe was closed)  then on to the City Museum which was hosting a special "Museums at Night" event. The staff and volunteers were in period dress giving talks and guided tours around the exhibits. After touring all three floors of the museum I desperately needed a cold drink and some coconut cake in the cafe there.

Recharged, at 6:30 I headed down to Kirkgate market - home of the original Marks and Spencer "Penny Bazaar" where the company had put on a special evening of entertainment  to celebrate Museums at Night (performances, talks, Edwardian music and a vintage tearoom!) I gave the tea room a miss but stayed for some of the performances.

Todays blip is Emily - a geography student and a budding actress. She played the part of Michael Marks. He entered into partnership with Thomas Spencer and M&S was born.

Back on the train to Huddersfield and a short drive home.

More photos  here.

I am hoping to visit the Yorkshire Sculpture Park tomorrow after work for their Museums at Night event. Oops .....the YSP event is Saturday night !!!
