St John
St John is buried here. Reportedly he first came here with Mary mother of Jesus, and later returned when he was ninety to write his parts of the bible. He liked to sit on top of the hill behind where there is now a castle ( great views and pleasant breeze) he died aged about 100.
This is an extensive site, both the ruins of the church build in his memory, the castle, and the very old mosque below. The mosque had a peaceful garden. I would not have wanted to climb the steep steps to call the faithful before loud speakers became common. We were sold a lovely tile by man who used to teach first the men then the women in the mosque now retired. He gave us a special card, and for once I managed a suitable phrase.
