This is Duncan approaching Thornthwaite Beacon on the first leg of his Joss Naylor Lakeland Challenge, it is a linear route of approx 48 miles with 17,000 feet of ascent between Pooley Bridge and the Great man's house near Wasdale.

I was up at 0230 this morning to pick Duncan up at 0345 for the drive to Pooley Bridge. We set off running at 0600 and got to Thornthwaite for about 0800, it was quite cold this morning 2 degrees C in Pooley Bridge and there was some low cloud on the tops, the sunshine in the breaks in the cloud was very welcome. He was in fine form chatting away and eating and drinking well and we got down to the road support at Kirkstone at 0900.

After a quick bacon butty and a cup of tea Duncan started on the steep climb up Red Screes with Ian his next pacer.

I am back at home now waiting for news on his progress I will probably have to update you tomorrow.

Mrs RH is going away to Spain for a few days with her sister, I will be chief cook and bottle washer for the next few days so Young1 had better be helpful!

One thing I did notice was that Mrs RH managed to shut her case without having to sit on it this year so my advice on minimalist packing must have been taken on board!
