Art Deco in Miami Beach - Essex House Hotel

After 4 days it was time to leave Miami Beach - but not before photographing the lovely at deco hotel in which we'd been staying. Somehow it seemed better in monochrome.

Essex House even featured in the "Miami Top Ten" art deco buildings in our Dorling Kindersley guidebook. The book said it is considered one of the best examples of maritime art deco architecture. I think the round shapes along the top story of the hotel used to be windows, made to resemble portholes - but for some reason they seem to have been covered over now.

We've now moved on to New Orleans so I'll add an "Extra" photo of a rather zany mask shop we passed this evening! Watch out for more zany photos in the next few days :)
