Wangen an der Aare
For some meetings I travelled today to the canton of Berne and passed the old & small village of Wangen an der Aare. It is situated strategically well on the river Aare, with its old wooden covered bridge as landmark.
The current bridge dates from 1552 and luckily it survived the year 1933. It was in poor condition and the local authorities and the population wanted to replace it by a modern construction. The head of the regional council then succeeded to keep the bridge and have it renovated. An inscription has then been added after the renovation has been finished:
In ihrem stillen Glück, dass sie darf weiterleben, grüsst froh die Wangerbrück.
