Almost Twelve Hours ...

It took us almost twelve hours to travel from Vero Beach, Florida to our home in Connecticut today.  We boarded our flight, and fastened our seat belts, promised the flight attendant that we were brave and strong enough to wrest the emergency exit door off and assist in the event of a disaster, and then the cabin filled with the most awful, strong odour of jet fuel.

They were fueling the plane, and somehow managed to spill a very large amount on the runway.  Fire trucks showed up.  Security vehicles showed up.  We were asked to get off the plane and return to the terminal ... where we waited and waited and waited some more for the mess to be cleaned up.   Eventually, they found us a new plane, and after a scenic tour through a large part of Orlando airport to our new departure gate, we eventually managed to take off!  It's now almost 11:00 at night, and we have just now walked in the door!

The extra photo is one I took out the window as we were disembarking.  You can see a big pool of jet fuel on the runway.
