Corrieshalloch

Just outside Ullapool is the National Nature Reserve, Corrieshalloch, which means 'place of the ugly hollow' in Gaelic. Goodness knows why- it is beautiful as well as spectacular. A suspension bridge crosses the box-gorge as the river falls down 100 or so metres to a spectacular waterfall at the Falls of Mesa. The moine rocks have been eroded by glacial meltwater over millions of years to form this narrow gorge. The bridge provided us with lots of fun, as it can only take 6 people at once, and the kids had a great time running on and off to make sure they were just six, no more but no less at any one time
