It's raining buns
My home town has some unusual traditions.
I've been busy moving house lately, but took time out today to head to town for the jubilee celebrations.
The rain came down all day. But the half mile long Ock Street held a street party that was packed out.
At 6pm, after some soggy Morris dancing, the rain really poured down as local dignitories took to the roof of the town hall to throw buns at the large crowd of locals gathered below.
Yep, that's what happens here on such occassions. In a tradition that goes back 250 years, buns are thrown at people. 6000 buns today, to be precise. 100 for every year of the Queen's reign.
The wet weather didn't dampen the spirits as people looked up to the cloudy skies and clambered to catch the buns as they rained down. Umbrellas and hats were turned upside down to catch them too.
Wet and cold, but unique to Abingdon.
