Eel

Can you see the slightly darker brown wavy line in the middle of this photo? No? Well, just imagine you can see it.

It is an eel, whizzing down the Water of Leith. I managed to fire off a couple of photos as it shot past but the wind ruffling the water has made it difficult to see.

The European Eel is critically endangered and its numbers have declined 90% or more since the 1970s. Not that that prevents commercial fishing of them of course.
