Red junglefowl

Polynesians brought these birds with them when they arrived in Hawaii about 1,000 years ago. Now they breed in a wild state in most of the Hawaiian islands, interbreeding to varying degrees with domesticated chickens. Virtually all chickens worldwide are descended from the red junglefowl of south east Asia. On Kauai they are incredibly common and seem to have remained remarkably 'pure' in appearance. Really smart in the sunshine.
