With a flight to the Galapagos in 2 days time, I thought it was about time to sort out what I was going to do when I got there. I was planning an island hopping trip because organised tours and cruises are supposedly extremely expensive. To get a better idea of how island hopping works I popped into the travel agency on the ground floor of the hostel and asked for some advice. 2 hours later, Consuelo the Galapagos expert had explained almost everything she could have about different ways to visit the island, even staying half an hour after closing to finish her explanation. After hearing about the benefits of staying on a live-in boat to see the outer islands, I was pretty much sold on doing a cruise but couldn't quite bring myself to book something so far out of my budget.

I spent the rest of the night researching the last minute cruise deals I had been offered by Consuelo and realised that although the prices I had been given seemed high to me, significant discounts had been applied for booking just 2 or 3 days before departure. I consulted with my parents on whether they thought it was a rash way to more of my savings and their response was pretty much "yolo just go for it", so I went to bed with a plan to choose a boat in the morning.
