The skies cleared far more than we'd expected and we had a very sunny walk through a local wood and 'meadow'. Then arrived back at our parents' home to find them waiting with rich chocolate cake and a view of the downpour on the Thames. Surely even the most ardent republican must have had a little sympathy for all the boat people and historians and costumes and organisers and spectators on whom the water was falling.
