View from Kandahar Window
Bb arrived safely at 3am and so we had a late-ish, quiet start to the day. We then decided to walk around Dokki (our area) and try to get to know it better. Ended up walking to Kandahar, our favourite Indian restaurant - a good hour and a half walk away. It doesn't sound much, but the temperature was in the 30s!
An interesting walk, passing live chickens and rabbits for sale (food, not pets!), fruit, vegetable, meat and fish stalls, sheesha cafes, mosques, sofa makers, chair repairers, juice shops, bakeries producing freshly baked balady bread, horse drawn carts and a scrap man with his donkey drawn cart. There were also a few 'hello' and 'welcome' greetings called out as we passed. Lots of blip opportunities, but we still feel a bit nervous about taking shots. We're probably over cautious, but better safe than sorry.
This is the first weekend since I got here that I haven't had to work in the school at the weekend and I've had a two day weekend! Yay!
