Kōwhai Bush in flower!

We planted two Kōwhai bushes and they are doing well in their first year. Was surprised to notice this one had flowered (late autumn) just at the base hidden away - no sight of any other blossom on this bush or the other.  I think they normally flower in spring. 

Delighted to see how lovely the blossom is - and they are loved by nectar feeding birds, the Tui and I guess the Bell Bird.
