Geelong After Dark : Grass shrine
One of the things that I love about my kids is the way that they get into things, and try on bizarre ideas.
Here is Miss C mediating inside a specially designed enclosure, lit by battery powered candles, reading a poem about grass whilst listening to some specially created music - all about one of our native grass species. She and the boys really engaged to see what it was all about.
It was just one of at least 50 slightly bizarre and certainly off the wall events that took place last night in our city of Geelong.
I enjoyed the bands and choirs singing in one spot, Mr B was helping with a pop up open air cinema (luckily it didn't rain, but it was rather cold! ), and my favourite was the torchlight tours of the local museum. Suddenly, familiar objects seemed exotic and sometimes a little sinister. The museum staff were dressed up as circus workers from 18th, including a bearded lady, and they told bizarre circus stories using the backdrop of the museum displays. Good stuff!
In a huge city like Melbourne, this kind of event involves lots of queuing and jostling with hundreds of people. Down in Victoria's second city, it was a lovely experience with just enough people to make it buzz, but with an immediacy that meant we spoke to the designer of the grass shrine, recognised one of the museum staff, and chatted to Mr B. And explored dark back alleys with curious happenings that were entirely legal! !
