Appley Tower

A lovely day spent with Chrissel today, showing her some on the treasures of the Isle of Wight. The windy weather we had yesterday was replaced by a lovely, sunny day. After visiting Arreton Barns, we headed to Ryde and walked with Daisy from there to Seaview, with a pause on the way for lunch, and an ice cream on the way back, which Daisy was really happy about. This is a small historic building on the beach."The tower was built as a garden folly about 1875. It is circular in plan, with a turret and decorative oriel window, and on the wall is a plaque with the Appley coat of arms. The Tower is constructed of coursed rubble, dressed with ashlar. Over the years it has become one of the most iconic of Wight buildings, and a symbol of Ryde".
