Pencil Cross...
Today has been a good day :)
Back pain wasn't so bad and friends Fiona and Janice came for lunch. I provided the soup and sandwiches and they brought the sweet goodies. And oh boy what a selection they brought. Mini pavlovas, scones, ginger and oat slices, chocolate slices and carrot cake slices! They refused to take any leftover goodies home with them so David got a big and very pleasant surprise when he got in from work and opened the fridge.
Headed out to vote around 7pm then as is the law, headed HERE afterwards.
Would like to stay up and watch the election results but got an early start tomorrow as friends popping in for a cuppa just after 9am on their journey north so need to be up and organised.
I hope if you are eligible to vote, that you did. I think the outcome in Scotland is fairly predictable (although who knows really?) and interesting times ahead I feel.
The song below from the wonderful Kane brothers was written in 1994. It still rings true today, only the numbers are much higher than 47k.
Hannah & James
Who could blame you for falling upon your feet
Wouldn't anybody else make the best of it?
Now you may be filled up with the finest thoughts
But someday they'll be the real live test of it
When you make that pencil cross
Your private gain is our public loss
Conscience, that's a heavy cost
That you're not prepared to pay, no way, no way
Hannah and James, Hannah and James
In a beautiful world that will never change
Hannah and James, Hannah and James
You will never know hunger or the sting of shame
Hannah grows up to be what she wants to be
Making forty-seven K at the worst of times
James's reaching the heights of his sweet success
On an undiscovered mountain of business crime
And when you make that pencil cross
Your private gain is our public loss
And conscience, that's a heavy cost
That you're not prepared to pay, no way, no way
Hannah and James, Hannah and James
In a beautiful world that will never change
Hannah and James, Hannah and James
You will never know hunger or the sting of shame
Hard hearted Hannah, brother James, brother James
And as the numbers fly overhead
You're sitting there like the living dead
And as the numbers fly overhead
You're sitting there like the living dead
