"And how did you vote?...."

Well, my vote is cast.
And it’s Green – for Mark Ruskell.

But I am amazed though at the reluctance of folk to say how they intend to vote. this morning at our weekly dance class I asked several in the group over coffee how they were going to vote. Suddenly there was silence. Nobody would reveal. Strange.

If you look at the bottom right hand corner of the photo you will see a dog. I asked the owner how the dog voted and she replied without a moment’s hesitation: “SNP”.

I have been asked on Blipfoto why the Labour Party is loosing out to Scottish Nationalists.

The answer is simple: Labour is seen as Red Tory in Scotland. There is very little to choose between the two parties. (Significantly Stirling council is a coalition of Labour and Tory councillors).

What has happened is that we have seen a collapse of heavy industries in Scotland, the bedrock of the Labour Party.

Young people do not identify with that past as they struggle to find a job, any job, and would prefer to give Scottish Nationalists a chance.

Perhaps a sign of how out of touch Labour have become with their working class roots is that Jim Murphy, leader of the Labour Party in Scotland, took Eddie Izzard in a dress wearing bright red lipstick into the centre of Glasgow.
No wonder there was a rumpus and they got hounded out.
Glasgow and the west of Scotland remains a very tough, macho environment. It’s not that long ago Glasgow was the knife and murder capital of Europe.
It will be a long time before you see New Man strutting the streets there.
