I love work!
I had just arrived at work this morning when the lovely Julie from reprographics came in with this stunner! She had been presented with him by some girls, who found him sitting on the pathway looking a bit lost.
I was really delighted, this Lime hawk moth Mimas tiliae is one I have only seen a few times before, and have never caught in my trap, so never photographed till now.
lime Hawk moths are reasonably common in the southern half of the UK and most frequent round the London area. It flies in May and June, and can be found in suburban and woodland habitats where the larval food plants of Lime, Birch and Alder grow!
I have used an extra shot to show you what he looks like in a more conventional pose.
