One Crowded Hour

sundews

Out for a lunch time walk and have noticed over the past week or so that the sundews are increasing in number.

Drosera, the botanical name, is from the Greek meaning dew or dew drops and even on a warm, full sun day they glisten as if covered in morning dew.
The drops are actually little, glossy droplets of a sticky 'glue' that traps unsuspecting insects (and anything else that tumbles its way) that they then digest, supplementing the nutrient diet from mineral poor soil.
The flowers are held above the leaves by a long stem so the pollinating insect doesn't end up as a snack!

What clever clogs!
