Jolly Boys Outing 32
Or possibly number 33. None of us could be certain, even after considerable cogitation around a table and over a beer or two. What we do know is that for the last 18 years, at least once and often twice a year, the Jolly Boys have been getting away for fresh air, walking and more besides. Our memories stretched and contorted, but nearly 20 years is a bit too far to be sure exactly. This time, we headed for Charlbury in the Cotswolds, a charming town of honey stone buildings and their well heeled owners in the constituency held by the Conservative Prime Minister, David Cameron.
Here is a view across the meadow, taken on our way into the town, about a mile from our campsite, for some more cogitation. Quite by chance, we met the site owner Linda in the Rose and Crown. She was sat close by and must have heard us talking about previous walks and outings and enquired of us 'were we the Lincoln Green group?' Me being the venue organiser and treasurer of fees, confirmed our identity and enjoyed a short chat over plans for our brief visit to the Cotswolds. It was all very amiable and charming. We did however establish that tomorrow's start point for our walk, namely Kingham ranks amongst the more exclusive of Cotswolds spots with price tags to match. This didn't dissuade us at all, since our plans involve departing the town's railway station and heading back to Charlbury off the beaten track. More on that tomorrow I'm sure.
By the way, we borrowed our group name from the ever so popular British sitcom Only Fools and Horses. In one particular episode the main characters took a coach trip to Margate on a Jolly Boys Outing. Find it on YouTube if you fancy a giggle. A
