In Memoriam of Dancing Man
Today was a lovely day, but also sad. Late last month the inner eastern suburbs of Balwyn and Kew lost one of their favourite local celebrities. On May 26th Robin Madden, known to most as the Dancing Man lost his fight with cancer, aged 67. Robin was a wonderful soul who could often be seen waving his arms, pelvic thrusting, sprinkler-spinning and giving some incredible high kicks on street corners in Balwyn, Kew and sometimes Northcote. Robin always danced with a smile on his face, and purely to bring smiles to the faces of others. He danced with no regard for the strictures or conventions of society, and as a result we all lived him. So in a celebration of his life a crowd of people, organised on Facebook, met on a street corner in Kew Junction, one of Robin's favourite spots, and danced like he did both to honour his memory and to bring a smile to the faces of passers by, just like he did. I am often touched, but thankfully never really surprised, by the kindness and compassion of people, and their willingness to make fools if themselves on a street corner to celebrate a great man.
