Rotting walls
Mintaro is a heritage listed village with many old stone buildings that attract photographers. These old walls hosted Lathlean's post office and store in 1862 and the telegraph office in 1873. More recently it was a carpenter's shop. The village was established in boom times to service the bullock carts carrying ore from the Monster Mine in Burra to the sea for transport to the UK. In those days Burra had the richest copper mine in the world. Soon after the ore was hauled instead to a railhead and Mintaro's heyday passed.
