Allotment, May 2015
Taken from the top of the site's muck heap, showing a different perspective on our plot after 3 or so hours of more digging and tidying and sowing.
In the foreground, under the plastic sheet is where the courgettes and squash will go, to the left of that is a strawberry bed. You can also see 4 dwarf fruit trees, some raspberries and gooseberry bushes and alongside the fence are more fruit trees and bushes and, of course, rhubarb. In the patch right in the middle will be peas and dwarf French beans.
In the middle distance you can see broadbeans growing away with space for runner beans and climbing French beans to the left of the coats. On the right of this bed are the potatoes but you can't see the earthing up.
In the far bed, to the left is garlic, shallots and a couple of rows of lettuce under the cloche and to the right beetroot and parsnips have been sown.
We're a bit behind this year, as people often are, some plotholders have beetroot and parsnips up and have put in their summer cabbage, one or two have planted some runner beans - a bit early I think. Ours are still in their packet. Some of this is due to the relatively cold, dry weather and some is due to having too much to do.
