In Brief, for once...

Jubilee Party

Expat abroad mentality again. Hot on the success of the Wills & Kate wedding party, I invited the same few folks, who over for a bit of a British larf.
If I was forced into a serious intellectual debate on the necessity of the monarchy, I'd probably have to come down on the other side of the fence, but you know, I hope I'm never forced into that debate, because I do love all the pomp and circumstance and the sentimental Royal patriotic claptrap. And of course, any excuse for a party!

So, we went through about 3 very large pitchers of gin and tonic, 1 of Pimms, got the bunting out that we had for the British tearoom at M's school festival, and apart from the shepherds pie and macaroni , we had a union jack pizza (aubergines for the blue, with tomato and mozzarella for the red and white) and another chocolate cake, with a fresh cream, raspberry and blueberry union jack , as well as this (Blue Peter badge worthy) battenberg cake, which, while I'm too slapdash to get it as good as the good food website version, I was quite pleased with, if I do say so myself.
With a friend's parents visiting from Scotland, we all had a pissed rendition of the National Anthem in honour of Liz, followed by a moment's depression as the Japanese team sang theirs (not a happy tune), then my Scottish guest started off on the real national anthem, Flower of Scotland and then treated us to the Northern Lights to boot! It was like one of family dos when my Gran was alive.
Cool? Not so much. But it was hilarious and I have not been so relaxed, or so utterly pissed for quite some time!
I wish my Mum and Fi had been here.

There's a lot of bollocks in Britain too, but we do know how to have a laughat ourselves, and a good party!

Happy Diamond Jubilee, QE2!
