Skagit River - Carey slough restoration
Rivers don't get much bigger than the Skagit River in Washington state. It's always a bit humbling to me when I get the opportunity to do work along the river course. Working along the Skagit requires a lot of context and also understanding of key watershed drivers like effects from dam hydrology, sediment supply, riparian forest age, and infrastructure within the floodplain.
Hopefully a new project the Skagit Watershed Council and Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group are pursuing will help remove/improve a portion of infrastructure in the floodplain near Hamilton and in the process open up key off channel habitat for juvenille salmonids.
