Old Allangrange

The day started bright, warm and sunny and I spent sometime outside drinking my cup of tea.
Later in the morning we went to an open garden day at Old Allangrange , an old house near Munlochy on the Black Isle.
It has been restored by JayJay and David Gladwin, also owner of the Black Isle Brewery, who moved here 20 years ago.
The garden has also been a major project with just a few trees and plants to start with it has now been transformed into a haven for wildlife , especially bees. The 'Highland Gardens for bees' has also been formed , the aim of ' the new initiative is to engage gardeners in the conservation of bees ,to make existing gardens more bee friendly , and to design and create bee friendly gardens'.
As the Black Isle has a micro climate plants like Wisteria and vines grow well, although not sure they would do well here on the Hill.
We enjoyed a walk around the garden admiring the well labelled vegetable garden and the wonderful formal garden in front of the house with finely clipped weeping pear trees. Everything is organic and planted with wildlife in mind. Although it was too cold for any bees there were plenty of birds and we saw several nests in the beech head and one wagtails nest on the woodpile.
We watched the flock of Hebridean sheep with their lambs playing on the hay bales and saw Molly the Jersey cow , pretty sure it was her milk we had in our tea :)
After organic tea and cakes we went to Cromarty and had lunch in The Pantry.
