Inside the Death Star

The new South Glasgow University Hospital saw the first in-patients move in today. More details at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-32450836.

The first patients moved from the old wards on site, and they do look old and tired now they are empty. Once fully opened, the so called Death Star will have almost 1200 patients. A number of existing clinical areas will stay on site, like the maternity unit and there will also be an attached children's hospital to replace the ageing one at Yorkhill.

I was there to help the pharmacy team with the stocking of new areas and closing of old wards. Back tomorrow to help finish up. Then similar at the other hospitals over the next few weekends. I'm glad to help out and delighted to get a nosy round the new place. I haven't worked out how to wangle a trip up to the helipad yet...

The atrium is full height and unlike our old hospitals, lovely and light. These rooms are on floors 3-11 I think. Pharmacy have quite a few of them, so visit required to the highest one!

I can't get the extra photo feature to work on the iPad, so I'll maybe take another tomorrow of the entrance to the children's hospital.
