Patron Saint of Beekeepers
Saint Ambrose, one of the four so called Fathers of the Church.
Here shown as a statue in the Wieskirche south of Munich, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a simply amazing rococo pilgrimage church in the middle of "nowhere".
At the feet of the statue, a bee hive.
Was visiting the church with friends and we had no idea who or what the four statues in the church were and why they had such different headwear. Sadly I didn't photograph all four..
One had a very tall, ornamental "tower" on his head
Two had clearly bishops mitres
One had a very ordinary wide brimmed hat
Have now managed to find out why the differences. The four fathers were:
St Gregory the Great, a Pope
St Ambrose, a Bishop
St Augustine, a Bishop
St Jerome, a priest and monk.
