the art of carrying wood on your head......
What a day! I travelled to Lilongwe as I am flying out tomorrow to the UK for a couple of weeks. About an hour into the journey, suddenly the gears would not change.......now I don't know much about cars but I do know that its not really very safe when you can't change gear! So am travelling in 5th gear and then I have to stop and the car won't go down gears! In order to change I had to switch off the engine. I finally made it to Lilongwe but the last part of the journey was done in 3rd gear so that I could travel slow enough in the traffic. Was very thankful that all the traffic lights were green!! Tomorrow morning I will have to find a mechanic to look at the vehicle while I am gone!! So glad to be here safely.
Now I have to find a taxi to take me somewhere to eat this evening as its not safe to walk in the dark!!
On the way, there were over a hundred women and children carrying loads of wood on their heads, later on in the journey lots of men carrying dried tobacco on their bicycles! Spotted this young lady putting the wood on her head - what a weight. Much respect!
