Up the Pole(s)

Definitely an emergency blip. I was sitting in my car while it was being thoroughly washed and just idly took this photo of the soap patterns on the windscreen, as you do!  But - it gives me the chance to make a point, which is that this was a hand car wash being operated (and as far as I can tell, owned) by a group of Polish men. These guys are very very efficient and they have a brilliant work ethic, and just get on with the job. I think that the relatively recent influx of Poles into the UK has had an overall positive effect as their reputation as hard workers is gaining ground.

There was a story on the national news a couple of years ago which spoke of a job centre in a typical English town in Easy Anglia which had a list of vacancies for early morning fruit pickers. Young English lads shunned the jobs, in droves, but the Polish young men eagerly grabbed these opportunities and worked long and hard.   There's a moral there somewhere.
