Sydney Opera House
I am sure there are not many people out there who cannot identify this little building. We are going on a tour of it tomorrow, so I will tell you about it's interesting history then. But today, with the rain and clouds, the darker sky seemed to set it off very well.
Our planned day did not quite work out as we expected - as the rain kept coming and going we kept changing our plans to rather be indoors to stay dry. We started out visiting Darling Harbour again, and then planned to visit the fish market but as it was raining we decided to go up the Sydney Tower instead. What fantastic views from there, a 360 degree view which gave us a good idea of all the areas that make up Sydney.
We spent some time in central Sydney, did a bit of shopping and walked through Hyde Park, visited St Mary's Cathedral, then walked towards the Botanic Gardens. It had started raining again so we popped in to the Art Gallery of NSW and had a quick look around there. We then went through the Botanic Gardens which are very well kept with some good views over the harbour and the city. There were many cockatoos flying overhead, screeching away and being very noisy!
It is a pity the weather was not good today, and it is meant to be very unsettled for the next three days too. Gavin is off to Melbourne tomorrow for two days, while Luke and I will continue exploring Sydney.
Gavin has just got back from work so we are about to go eat dinner. Apologies for not having much time to look at journals, I will catch up when I can.
My extra photo today is of a cruise ship that came in last night - you can see just how big it is, it dominates Circular Quay.
