What a picture, What a night

It was another big night for The Kiltwalk a week ago when we had a launch night over in Edinburgh at the Scottish Cafe no less where over 120 guests from the Scottish business community came along to hear Gordon Cairns, one of The Kiltwalk Trustees and Ken Dunbar, CEO of Aberlour Children's Trust talk about the work The Kiltwalk is involved in and how much it means to the Partner Charities.

The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of The Kiltwalk within the business community with aim of finding some sponsors for 2013 so we can continue to reach our goal of raising £1m a year for Scotland's Children, and once we've reached our first million, we want to go on and double that, so we need all the help we can get.

Sponsorship isn't just about helping out with running costs of events, which means even more goes back to good causes, it's about raising awareness within the workplace so that next year more and more people sign up to a Kiltwalk event, meaning more money is raised in return.

We were also appealing to the business leaders to lend us some of their talent to help organise, market, promote, help on committees etc, etc.

Of course this isn't our only avenue for Kiltwalk help as we have nearly two thousand people who have taken part in a Kiltwalk this year and if any of you have a desire to help out, please don't hesitate to get in touch (ian@thekiltwalk.co.uk) as next year there will be some additional planning committees at a local level to make sure we maximise our efforts.

Anyway the night was a great success and we hope to announce something pretty exciting in the coming months, so watch this space.

For anyone who has never been to the Scottish Cafe, as it was a first for me, then it's a wonderful setting which is just below the National History Museum and overlooks Princess Street Gardens and with the sun splitting the skies, it just added to the chilled out atmosphere.

Inside we had our usual Kiltwalk livery, however the finishing touch was all thanks to our fantastic Kiltwalk photographer, Shaun Ward, who had produced some fabulous prints and turned them into stand up cards which sat on every table and it was great to see them all as they brought back some great memories.

One picture I spied was the one used in today's blipfoto which is of Niki and Jose and for me, it sums up the experience and emotion of the Kiltwalk, as two great friends cross the line together.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting the pair of them, however through the world of Twitter and Facebook I feel as if I know them. This was their first Kiltwalk and it was an experience they thoroughly enjoyed, so much so that they're already planning for next year, and perhaps then I'll get to meet up with them.
