River Alne
This is the lovely River Alne that flows past the other side of a river meadow behind our house.
We went for a little walk this evening so I could stretch my legs (they're too short!). We picked some wild garlic (away from the footpath!) and that will be going into my mushroom omelette very shortly. We went along the river bank for a little way, and then through the wood, past the church - and Oh! There's the pub! "Let's have a quick one."
According to Wikipedia, "The name Alne takes its name from the River Alne. First chronicled in the charter of King Ethelbald (723–737) "near to the river which our ancestors used to call, and which is called to this day, 'Alwine'." The Celtic word Alwine meaning bright or clear."
And it still is bright and clear, as you can see.
