In the clouds

Snow on the hills today and sleet showers. Great weather for almost May. But it stayed fine whilst we were in Carlisle this morning and I liked this weather vane against the blue sky and cloud. The building is currently a bank and it was built as a bank in 1849 – Carlisle City & District Banking Company. The building itself is very imposing and stands in a prominent position on a corner of two roads in the city centre. This is the very top of the building, with the copper domed cupola and the ornate weather vane. The work that has gone into the weather vane is quite stunning – I think.

Blipmeet

A reminder that we have a Blipmeet next week - Monday 4th May, the Bank Holiday. The aim is to meet up around here at about 10.30am and then there will be a choice of walks, including a climb to High Cup Nick and a more leisurely walk around Dufton Pike. If I am not fully recovered from the back pain by then, there might be another option of a short stroll round the village or the Ghyll! And of course anyone who just wants to come for coffee and a chat is very welcome. We haven’t definitely decided whether to meet in the village or in Appleby – it depends on what cafés are open and the weather on the day. I will sort this out very soon. If anyone has any views on this please let me know.
