Common Midge Orchid

The walking season has opened in South Australia, and will run through until November, when it gets too hot.

Today was the first guided orchid walk of the season in the Belair National Park - and it was a perfect day.  Quite cool, only a slight breeze and lots to see.  It was wonderful.

Kangaroos - quite a lot of them, koalas sleeping their life away, and many many birds, getting ready for the breeding season.

Only two types of orchid, of which this is one - the common Midge Orchid (Corunastylis rufa).  Like most of our terrestrial native orchids it is very very tiny, and you can only see the exquisite detail with the macro lens.
