colours of dry

The drive home continues....a very long day ahead on the Sturt & Hume Highways, having had to stop in Hay yesterday evening - some 270km from where I had planed to be (Wagga).  A blown headlight is no place to be driving out here.  Far too many roos & emu sitting patiently beside the road (but we all know that patience can run out unexpectedly & suddenly).

So todays road is now just a little over 650km... easy enough if you don't have night shift waiting at the other end of it!!

Out here the sky is big & blue (unless you happen across one of the few & far between rain occurrences) the ground is that gorgeous red we are known for (caused by the mineral content I think) & farmers do some pretty clever things out here to make a living.
Cotton is a water hungry crop - it has never been understood why they grow it in such a dry place - but Aussie farmers are clever & have over the last decade figured out how to grow cotton with half the water. It's quite a beautiful thing to see - kilometre after kilometre the white of the cotton against the red & blue.

Wagga for a cuppa with friends. The drive continued.
Now where to put everything thats in the car...
